A very long time ago 1987 NEC
and Hudsonsoft made the then ultimate game console
it was a pseudo 16 bit machine with a 16 bit graphic processor and a 8
bit CPU 6820 made by NEC himself.
In 1988 The PC-engine came to the U.S. as the Turbografix
. In 1990 they started making games on CD which makes it the worlds first
CD based game console . This console was called the Turbo Duo or PC Duo
in Japan The machine was well designed (It didn't look cheap like all other
consoles till now) and the games .. For example Outrun doesn't look better
on any other console , even the Genisis version doesn't look as good .
In 1990 They made a portable version of the TurboGrafix/PC-engine
the PC-Express or TurboExpress in U.S. . From now it is the best portable
games console , it had a active matrix screen (yes that means no blurrry
graphics and you can also play in sunlight , try that on the Game gear
, and the screen was very sharp and clear ) ,512 colors on screen a resolution
of 400 by 200 pixels (Double resolution of the gameboy) And best of all
the games on the big console fitted on the porteble one (like on the Nomad)
This
is the TurboExpress it looked as remarkeble then as it looks now
It also had very good sound quality at least better
than the other 16 or eight bit consoles
This was a
remarkeble plan to make the PC-Duo portable , it was expensive though ,
but it is a near perfect system it had a rechargable battery pack on the
back and it could play four hours (The screen is also a ultra sharp active
matrix screen (TFT) .
This
is an early joypad the later versions used a 6-button joypad for fighting
games like Street Fighter
This is the Turbo Duo
This console could play the Hue cards and had a double speed cd player
(we are speaking about the early nineties or late eighties - Computers
had single speed cd rom players or no cd rom players at all) and was equipped
with 256 kilobytes of memory (If you look at this system in reality you
will discover that it doesn't look cheap like most other consoles)
This
was the first U.S. version of the TurboGrafix this one only handles the
Hue cards
If you see one of these things don't hesitate GET IT !!
And don't mind a big debt .It's once , the PC-Engine and its counterparts
are extremely hard to get .
